Torque of the North - September 2023

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi ,

News from around the North
Wow, despite the weather it’s been a cracking August, although two drenching’s in a 60-year-old car and you long for better lights, wipers, demister etc.  Our inaugural BBQ at Nether Alderley, with Avro Museum visit and Trevor’s Peak District Run, went down well, even if Doug and my BBQ skills were stretched to the limit (come back Mike S. all is forgiven).  Whilst up in Northumberland they were doing the same at the Northeast Sea Land Air Museum with a select couple of cars, early August.
Hebden Bridge Vintage Car show saw a large contingent of Healey’s collide with the Steam Punk genre to provide an eclectic mix at this popular Yorkshire event.
Tatton and Oulton Park were both once again very popular with members, whilst the VSCC provided the most charming race, the iconic Historic Grand Prix Cars, were outstanding.  Well done to the Yorkshire contingent for grabbing Best Healey on both days of Tatton.
Further news
Big thanks to everyone who attended Classics over Sands, I spotted lots of Healey’s, particularly frogeyes, although they seem a bit scarce on the 2-minute video of the event: https://youtu.be/z8hPiJ9wMo4 With over £6,000 raised for local charities and some decent weather, we are already planning next year.  Still in the Lakes, the second Lakes and Dales noggin saw twelve attendees and a decent collection of cars, although Lesley bravely came over from Skipton in a Frogeye and had problems driving back, finally conking out in her village!

The Golden Pheasant team in Cheshire were treated to a personal viewing of Tony Hughes’ car collection, a truly great evening that beat the usual Natter!
