Torque of the North - November 2022

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi ,

The clocks go back as I write this on 29th October, so with the shorter days and autumnal weather ahead it looks like we are drawing to the end of the hood-down Healey season but fear not, there are still club events to report and to look forward to.

AGM
Whilst not as sexy as other events reported this month, we nevertheless had a most enjoyable evening up in the North East with our AGM being hosted at the Northumbrian Noggin and Natter.  The committee was re-elected with the now familiar unanimous vote but we also welcomed two new members:  John Zubak from Yorkshire joins as the new secretary and Jen Stanger-Leathes joined as the co-rep for the North East.  The team aims to last longer than a recent conservative government and promise not to tank the funds in week one!! If you want a copy of the minutes please contact the secretary at: secretary@ahc-northern.org.uk  Many thanks to the outgoing secretary, Phil Kershaw, for his unstinting efforts to keep the record straight!

Welsh Weekend - September 2022
The weekenders split into two groups on Saturday, some visiting Llandudno, the Penderyn whisky distillery and the Great Orme. The other group went to Caernarfon Airport and Museum returning via the Llanberis Pass and Snowdonia.  On Sunday the coffee stop was at Tan-Y-Bwlch station on the Ffestiniog heritage line leaving there to Trawsfynnedd and Tan-Y-Grisiau.  Returning to the Hotel for Sunday supper night and the prize giving.  The drives were 84 and 74 miles respectively.
Dates booked for 2023 and the accommodation is already full, but there is a cancellation list running.  Contact John or Jill below.

The Bickerton Poacher Pub in Malpas was the venue for a Skittles Evening earlier this month. 4 teams of 6 represented Cheshire, North Wales, Leek and Shropshire and there was a very friendly but competitive spirit between the teams. The trophy holders, North Wales, put up a spirited attempt to retain the title but sadly to no avail and the trophy was claimed by the Leek team led by Ivan Meakin. The Bickerton Poacher extended a very warm welcome to all those attending with cosy log fires, super pies and a very congenial atmosphere.
Excellent weather saw the Yorkshire area wrap up the season with “The Last of the Summer Wine” run starting below at the famous Oil Can Café.
