I know a few of us have been venturing into the garage and having seen Doug’s attempts at de-squeaking his 100, I managed a miserable afternoon of tinkering. Suffice to say it was less the electric bills and more the creeping frostbite that chased me out. I did however see a few other diehards on the road in their Classics on the last few days of the month, lets pray for some sun and dry roads!
News from around the North
The late (and pre-) Christmas lunches around the Northern centres have been a great success this year with around 115 members and guests attending in Yorkshire, Scotland, Cheshire, Northumbria and North Wales. Here in Cheshire and Northumbria we’ve a smattering of “old hands” and “new faces”.

Nice work from Steve Ormerod for getting Cumbrian Healey’s noticed on the road and in the motoring press. Steve joined the Practical Classic’s editorial team (seen here outside the Lakeland Motor Museum with an eclectic mix of machines) back in November for a winter run, see the whole story in February’s Revcounter and March’s Practical Classics.

The Northern Centre Mayday weekend has just 3 places left, so get your skates on if you plan to join in! Based at the Blackwell Grange Hotel, Darlington, the event runs from Friday 28th April to Monday 1st May. Plans are in place for driving routes taking in some of the local spectacular scenery, with the usual full evening entertainment, for full details check out January’s Revcounter. Northern Centre once again will be attending the Oulton Park Gold cup (28th-30th July) and the MSV have allocated the club 20 x 50% discounted places for each day. That’s £39 reduced to £19.50 for a 3 day weekend ticket but single day tickets are also available. Another great opportunity for Northern members to show off the quality of the Healeys at the National Concours at Yorkshire Elegance, Bowcliffe Hall near Wetherby on 19th July, see February’s Revcounters for details.

- Sunday 23rd April 2023 FHBC Drive It Day plans are afoot in Scotland, Yorkshire, Northumbria and North Wales to organise a run out. Details are being thrashed out, but please make sure you have the date in your diary! - Gawsworth Hall. Monday 1st May. Lovely location for the opening event of our Classic Car show season. No club stand this year so individual entry applications direct to the organiser. See Northern Centre Website.
- Wed 19th July 2023 Yorkshire Elegance at Bowcliffe Hall hosts the Austin Healey Club National Concours, in addition to the Northern Centre’s standing invite to the Elegance event.
- Glamis Castle. 8th-9th July. 47th Scottish Transport Extravaganza
- The Car’s the Star. Sunday 16th July. Holker Hall and the Kirby Lonsdale Motor Club organise this special car show with a Lake District feel. Always a handful of members' cars there, but plenty of room for more. Date TBC.
- 28-30th July 2023 - Oulton Park Gold Cup. This perennial outing to the Gold Cup and once again it’s at the earlier July date rather than August Bank Holiday.

- Friday 25th August 2023 - Cheshire BBQ. We are planning a run in the Peak District starting at the Avro Heritage Museum with photo opportunities alongside the Vulcan XM603 and finishing at a BBQ in the Paddock at St Marys Church in Nether Alderly.
- 2nd-3rd September 2023 - Croft Nostalgia The North Eastern team are planning to return to the Croft Circuit to attend the Historic Sports Car Club Race meeting.
