Torque of the North - September 2021

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi,

Welcome to September’s newsletter, we’ve probably only one or two more “noggins” before autumn and dark nights, time to make the best of the next few weeks!  This month we’ve news of August’s events, our very own Healey Agony Uncle (tech man) and Yorkshire Sub-Centre’s planned trip to the Great British Car Journey.

Dave Sinclair, our technical advisor, has been busy answering queries, including one of my own.  It was really easy, using the webpage on the Northern Healey Club website, I had an email chat with Dave and have sorted out my issue.  Dave has had a few questions now, so the system is bedding down... it's great to get some fresh thinking.  Please remember that it may take a day or two for Dave to answer queries.

Jeff Hollinshead has extended an open invitation to all Northern Centre Members for the Yorkshire Sub-Centre's visit to The Great British Car Journey, Ambergate, Derbyshire, DE56 2HE on Thursday 9th September.  There are a couple of options:
  • Meet up at 10am at The Oil Can Cafe, Washpit Mills, Green Lane, Holmfirth, HD9 2RD for coffee/tea/breakfast, leaving The Oil Can at 10.30am
  • Meet en-route (organise with Jeff) or at TGBCJ in Ambergate around 12.15pm
There is a Café at the venue, or bring a picnic. The cost is  £10 per person for groups of 25+ and £13 for groups under. Jeff expects we would be departing around 4pm.
Please let Jeff know ASAP, but by Monday 30th so that he can let the venue and Oil Can Café know numbers.

North Wales Sub-Centre held their picnic on the Wales/Shopshire border, whilst missing the worst of the forecast rain; everyone enjoyed getting out, even with the hood up!
Cheshire’s August Noggin at the Golden Pheasant was probably the biggest turnout for years, a lovely summer evening and a car park full of Healeys.  Better still we had a few new members along for their first Noggin.
Tatton Park was very well attended despite the poor weather on Saturday (better on Sunday).  As usual the food was Fabulous (thanks Jacqui, Mike & Bernadette), great company & simply a brilliant two days. Topped off on the second day by Steve Higginson’s immaculate BJ8 being awarded runner up to Best Sports car at the Show.
The Northumbrian team enjoyed a day’s hood down driving from Stanhope across the Pennines via the highest pub in Britain, The Tan Hill Inn and then onto lunch at the Fat Lamb in Cumbria. Rounded off with a great drive home for Tea and cakes back at Stanhope!

Forthcoming events
  • North East Scotland - next meeting at Tomintoul, Scotland’s highest village, on Saturday 28th August via the Lecht Road - one of our fantastic mountain passes so often blocked by snow in winter. We’ll meet in the square for 11am then decide where to have coffee.   All Healey owners are welcome - the more the merrier & I’m looking for all of the “Big Healeys” as well as Frog Eyes & Sprites to come along. Contact Mike Rasmussen on 07968 196888.
  • Central Scotland - As an opening event, Donald Gordon is putting together a run on Sunday 29th August starting with a Bacon Butty Breakfast at Auchinstarry followed by a 60 mile run to the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel for Lunch.  Details from Donald on 0141 887 1979 or email above.
  • Oulton Park Gold Cup 28-30 August, club has a stand booked but ticketing has changed & you will need to book yourself in!  More details from Mike Stonier on 07941 757648 or via WhatsApp
  • Great British Car Journey - See above
That's all for this month, remember; only a few weeks and we’ll be tucking the cars in bed for the winter!  So bring them to an event before the Weather hits!
