Torque of the North - May 2023

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi ,

What a cracking month - Goodwood Members’ Meeting, then a 5-day trip around the Lakes and Dales by Healey, makes you glad to be alive.  Big thanks to all the organisers of the “Drive It” days (see below), it was great to spend time driving and having a laugh - that’s what old cars are all about.  We’ve got a full Agenda of events, so make sure you get signed up early!

News from around the North - April “Drive It” days
The Scottish contingent were out on two runs during April: Ian Walker took a small AH contingent out on the Royal Scottish Automobile Club Spring run, separately Neil Munn led a drive, tangling en-route, with the veteran “Flying Scotsman” Vintage Rally.  South of the Border, in a gesture of friendship with the MG owners, the Northumbrian Healeys took a few cars along on the NE Cobweb run.
Over in North Wales, despite grim looking weather, a full cast of Healeys; including Sprites, big Healeys and a Jensen Healey were joined by assorted classics to explore the beautiful countryside and the fine food of North Wales.
In Yorkshire it was all big Healeys, negotiating several spine-tingling passes to emerge at the Top of the World (that’s Tan Hill Inn).  Whilst the roads were awesome, the Yorkshire puddings were spectacular.

BN1 - BJ8 1/2-inch square drive multi socket hub nut tool. Have you seen the Northern Centre toolbox that lends tools to members?  Trevor Gammage has added the latest tool to the box that will be an absolute boon to anyone that has tried to change the real wheel bearing or oils seal on a Big Healey.  This special tool is essential to get the nut off and replaced with the correct Torque.  Check it out at Toolbox
