Torque of the North - March 2022

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi ,

Lots going on in the coming weeks, with Drive it days, on the 24th April, as well as the first of our events at Gawsworth Hall, near Macclesfield on 2nd May.  We’ve also news about the Club “Toolbox” and some interesting events planned for later in the year.

News from around the North
First off, several of us joined the tour of Dennis Welch’s premises near Utoxeter, kindly organized by the Midlands Centre.  We all had an excellent time, topped off by fish & chips at the local pub.  Events like these give a real insight into the work Healey specialists are involved with in supporting the Marque, particularly the CNC milling machines making parts for the cars.
If you missed the Dennis Welch event and fancy a visit to Murray Scott Nelson,
the North's largest and most well-known Austin Healey restorer, get your name down for a visit to Scarborough!  Known for the quality of their restorations and display at the NEC Show, John Scott Nelson will be in attendance to answer questions on all aspects of owning/running an Austin Healey.  Give Jeff a call on 07800974418

Once again, we are attending Gawsworth Hall on 2nd May (see https://gawsworthhall.com/classic-car-show/) The cost is £5 per person (not car) pre-booked directly with Gawsworth.  For more details email Jonathan on treasurer@ahc-northern.org.uk who will pass on booking info.

A couple of other interesting events worth looking at are:
  • Truro Motor club have a classic run on 26th June with lunch at Donald Healey’s old home Trebarth Gardens, ending at Healeys Cyder farm, owned by his Grandson with a show of the family vehicles.  Its ticket only and check  www.trurodmc.co.uk for details.
  • The club have been sounded out about attendance at Bowcliffe Hall, a very posh 3-day event in Yorkshire 18-21st July.  If you fancy a peek, check out http://www.thefastlaneclub.com/yorkshire-elegance .  For more details chat to Jeff 07800974418 or Doug 07940 313947.

Finally, Trevor Gamage has taken charge of our “toolbox”, a selection of specialist tools for our cars.  In concert with Thames Valley area, Trevor is pulling together arrangements to extend the service across the Northern Area of the club.  To get in touch with Trevor email on trevor.gammage@ahc-northern.org.uk .
