Torque of the North - June 2022

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi ,

This month we’ve news on the Scott Nelson trip to sunny Scarborough, a teaser on the “Northern Toolbox” and a new event in the events calendar.

First up, Trevor Gammage has been busy putting together a selection of tools that club members can borrow, use and return...mainly tools that are used on a one-off basis which wouldn’t justify members buying their own tool.  Trevor is currently working with our IT Guru, Robert Thornburrow to make the toolbox process as slick as possible.  We got the idea from the Thames Valley area and will be pooling our tools to provide as wide a range as possible.  More next month.

We’ve several members in and around Preston who might like a trip to Longridge on Sunday 4th September to the Vehicle Extravaganza.  For more info see events list or: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/longridge-vehicle-extravaganza-tickets-330454156277

News from around the North
Several members braved the trip across to Scarborough for a visit to Murray Scott Nelsons operation, well known for photos of its “for sale” cars taken against the Scarborough Esplanade.  The group were entertained by John Scott Nelson with a full tour as well as Q&A’s.  The day was rounded off with a couple of parade laps around Scarborough’s Street circuit, Oliver’s Mount Racetrack, billed as England’s only real road circuit, before a well-earned lunch at the track’s café.

Many thanks to the Scott Nelsons and to Jeff Hollinshead for getting the Northern Centre back into a workshop for the first time in many years!
