Torque of the North - June 2021

Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi,

Welcome to June’s newsletter, we’ve news of the first Noggin in Cheshire, news from Northumberland & Yorkshire, a pair of Frogeyes in the snow, as well as a quick run around some forthcoming events.

Whilst RevCounter often covers a fleet of Big Healeys on Stelvio, we don't often see Frogeyes running through the snow covered Cat & Fiddle.  Northern members and brothers; Bob and Jim Nicholson, used some lockdown time this year to brave the March snow.
It was a cold start to the first Manchester & Cheshire Noggin (at a rescheduled Swettenham Arms) finding us all crowded around the heating, despite it looking like a pleasant evening!

The June Noggin, saw us back to a sunny Golden Pheasant, much pleasanter 23 degrees!

Sub Centre News

Northumbria had their first run on Wednesday 26th May, a beautiful evening for the drive out.  Starting at the Ridley arms, on the A1 North of Newcastle, running up the A1 with a couple of “stop-offs”.
Yorkshire – Jeff Hollinshead asks that all members please note that the June Noggin will not be at our usual venue of The Black Horse Inn, Clifton, Brighouse but at The Punch Bowl Inn, Marton Cum Grafton, YO51 9QY from 6.30pm onwards.

Technical Adviser

Following feedback from the Members Survey requesting more technical support for members, the Northern Centre has secured the services of a long established member who is an experienced motor engineer that has worked on numerous Healeys big and small, standard and modified to act as technical adviser.

He has kindly agreed to make himself available to help fellow members with their Healey Technical Queries.  We are making good progress in setting this up as a page on our Northern Centre website, full details shortly.

Forthcoming events

  • Newby Hall (near Ripon) Historic Vehicle Rally takes place on Sunday 18th July. Whilst several members have booked their cars in to display already, if you’re interested, contact Jeff Hollinshead ASAP on 07800 974418.
  • Tatton Park, Cheshire; August 21st and 22nd, contact Mike Stonier on 07941 757648
  • Cars the Star, Holker, South Lakes; Sunday 11th July.  We hope to have some space for Healeys, subject to Organisers.  Tickets can be ordered here.
A big thank you to Jonathan Pilkington for organizing a fabulous “set up” at Gawsworth on Bank Holiday Monday.  We had our own “bijou” area, with a total of 15 cars attending as well as a dose of incredible weather.

That's all for this month, enjoy the weather and look out for July’s Torque of the North.
