Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter

Hi ,

News from around the North

Happy New Year to everyone, I hope Christmas brought you everything you need, (new diff in my case)... but I made a special effort so the kids could buy me a new Healey this year!  I’ve become adept with classic Scalextric, so a ridiculous eBay offer meant I now have two Healey’s racing the tough Wilmslow track, shortened due to domestic issues!
Trip to Car Collection
The Cheshire team were invited to see an incredible collection of cars, steam engines, aircraft and engineering prowess in what could only be described as the best man cave any of us have ever seen!  Here are the team pose in front of a 617 Sqn Tornado GR4, ZA399.  Doug last flew this Jet in March '90 on an HE bombing exercise to Garvie Island off the north coast at Cape Wrath, plane definitley weathering better than Doug!  Big thanks to our hosts & Doug for setting things up.
RevCounter Award Winners
It’s rare to see RevCounter ahead of TOTN, but this January it’s arrived early so Congratulations to Northern members Tony Ball and Jeff Hollinshead for winning annual RevCounter writers awards. Tony’s November article won the Jubilee Shield for best non-technical article and Jeff’s, in February, shared the best Tech Talk Award.

It's contributions like these that help keep RevCounter interesting and topical, huge thanks to Jeff and Tony.  Have you got a story or technical insight? You don’t have to be Lee Child to get published in Revcounter so why not give it a go?

Work in Progress
Its that time when many of the cars are laid up for servicing, getting those niggly little squeaks fixed, waxoyled or major engine out work done.  We’ve seen many requests for advice and photos in the WhatsApp groups and it’s great to see the great tips and help offered.  Here’s a sample of the work going on.

Don’t forget that if you’ve found a smart solution to a problem then please write it up and share it in RevCounter.

Still to come!

Friday 1st - Monday 4th May 2026 - May Bank Holiday Weekend 2026
Next year, we are returning to the Lake District, based at the Grade 2 listed Netherwood Hotel & Spa. Located on the outskirts of Grange-over-Sands, it’s an ideal location for exploring the South Lakes.

Saturday’s route will tour the lakes, driving the passes and hills, with plenty of hostelries enroute where you can take a break and stretch your legs.  Sunday’s route will be more leisurely, boarding a steam train at Haverthwaite, which will take us to Lake Windermere, where a boat to Bowness will be waiting. Here, you can explore the town before returning to Haverthwaite.

Like our previous events, there will be entertainment after dinner on Saturday and Sunday, with the Gala Night incorporating pre-dinner drinks, charity raffle and awarding of concours trophies.  Shoulder nights will also be available.

Although the event is nearly full, experience has shown that there will always be cancellations.   If you are interested in attending, please contact Paul Johnson at booking@ahc-northern.org.uk or on 07785 790710.

Wednesday 8th July 2026 Churnet Valley Railway Breakfast Steam Train

BOOK EARLY - seats sell very quickly and Churnet Valley Railway cannot guarantee we will all sit together the nearer to the event tickets are booked.  On our return to Froghall Station at 1230 we depart for an hour of driving over the Peak District’s southern reaches passing through Ipstones, Onecote, Gradbach and Allgreave arriving at The Swettenham Arms, CW12 2LF for a late lunch/early supper.
