Torque of the North - June 2025
Austin Healey Club Northern Centre's Newsletter
Hi ,
News from around the North
It feels like ages since the “Drive It” days of late April, its felt a bit like California rather than Manchester these last few weeks, a bit of a stretch but isn’t it lovely not bothering putting the hood up! Come end of May and the rains arrived but keep faith and check all the Healey events, but be quick, many are full or nearly full!
Knockhill Coffee and Classics
Scotland’s roving team (with the Coffee and Classics meetings) were at Knockhill racetrack in Fife for the May noggin. With the better weather we had a great turnout of Healey’s and miscellaneous Classics for a welcome coffee, an entertaining Parade lap and a super drive for an ice cream at Limekilns.
It was great to meet up with Ian and Joan Walker at the Golden Pheasant on the final leg of their epic journey across Spain and GB. Joan and Ian had undertaken the recovery of a 100 by road on behalf of a member’s family from Malaga to Stirlingshire. The car started first time after 6 months sitting idle and ran very nicely along the Spanish motorways as they wound their way to Santander.
The final leg was a single day drive from Portsmouth to Drymen with a stop off to meet us all at the Golden Pheasant. Over a thousand miles with the hood down, some people are gluttons for punishment! Well done Ian and Joan.
Yorkshire Noggin
A foray to the Punch Bowl in Marton Cum Grafton for the May Yorkshire Noggin, saw a great turnout. Set up by Jeff H a couple of years ago, it gives a chance for the more “far flung” members to meet the usual crowd, as well as allowing some great motoring! Note, back to the normal venue for June.
Gawsworth Hall
Gawsworth is the very essence of a Classic Car show and this year was no exception. With the weather resulting in a great turnout of the “Old Timers”, the cars and the people! This is a lovely show with 12 cars and a great pitch. Good to meet the Midlands Centre members who made the drive up to join us.
Still to come!
